Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) announced today the three curators for the next Sharjah Biennial, opening in March 2019: Zoe Butt, Omar Kholeif, and Claire Tancons.

HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Federal Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, attended the opening of the landmark retrospective Hassan Sharif: I Am The Single Work Artist at Sharjah Art Foundation.

This autumn, Sharjah Art Foundation presents a landmark retrospective of the work of pioneering conceptual artist Hassan Sharif, marking the largest and most comprehensive survey of the Emirati artist's work to date.

Sharjah Biennial director and Sharjah Art Foundation president and director Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi has been announced as the new president of the International Biennial Association (IBA) in an appointment that will transfer IBA headquarters to Sharjah.

The fourth edition of the March Project residency exhibition will open on Saturday 30 September 2017 at 6 pm. The opening tour and reception will be followed by a screening of the film Only Men Go to the Grave by Emirati director Abdulla Al Kaabi at 8 pm.

The launch of ten artist publications and a symposium will take place from 10 to 14 August 2017 at the Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center, Ramallah and Khashabi Theatre, Haifa.

Sharjah Art Foundation’s (SAF) extensive spring and summer programmes for 2017 include touring exhibitions and several international co-commissioned and supported projects alongside Act I of Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj (SB13), on view at SAF through 12 June.

Following on from its inaugural presentation at the Palace of Arts, Cairo in September 2016, When Art Becomes Liberty: The Egyptian Surrealists (1938–1965) opened at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Deoksugung, Seoul on Friday, 28 April 2017.

Taking place in various locations across Istanbul, BAHAR [Spring] is the second of four Sharjah Biennial 13: Tamawuj (SB13) off-site projects centred around the keywords ‘water’, ‘crops’, ‘earth’ and ‘culinary’.

The Khartoum School: The Making of the Modern Art Movement in Sudan (1945–Present), Kamala Ibrahim Ishaq: Women in Crystal Cubes and Amir Nour: A Retrospective (1965–Present): Brevity is the Soul of Wit opened at Sharjah Art Foundation on Saturday, 12 November 2016, in the presence of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the UAE Federal Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Sharjah Biennial 13, Tamawuj, will unfold in five parts from October 2016 through October 2017, encompassing exhibitions and a public programme in two acts in Sharjah and Beirut; a year-long educational programme in Sharjah; projects in Dakar, Ramallah, Istanbul and Beirut; and an online publishing platform.
