Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) is pleased to announce the opening of the March Project 2015 exhibition on October 31st 2015.

March Project 2015 features site specific works developed by seven young artists during this educational residency programme. In its second edition, the exhibition will include performances, video works and installations on view at SAF Art Spaces, Calligraphy Square and the Arts Area. Participants in this programme include Majd Abdel Hamid, Maysoon Al Ali, Mona Al-Beiti, Balqis Al Rashid, Matt Copson, Sholto Dobie and Matthew Peers, who were selected from various countries including Palestine, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

The exhibition will open at 6:00 pm on October 31, the opening tour will start at SAF Art Spaces and end there with Mina, a performance by participating artist Sholto Dobie in collaboration with musician Joel Wycherly at 7:45 pm.

March Project is an educational residency programme for young artists, providing them with opportunities to research, realise and present site-specific works through a series of professional seminars, site visits, talks and mentorship by art practitioners. Mentors for March Project 2015 were Tarek Al-Ghossein, Lara Khalidi, Derek Ogbourne and Alaa Younis.

With March Project, young artists from around the world have a chance to meet and exchange ideas while receiving the advice and guidance of experienced artists and art professionals.

Artists selected for this year’s programme include recent graduates from the following institutions; Slade School of Fine Art (UK), American University of Beirut (Lebanon), Malmö Art Academy (Sweden), Higher Colleges of Technology (UAE) and Zayed University (UAE).

Light Show

On view at SAF Art Spaces until December 5, Light Show explores the experiential and phenomenal aspects of light by bringing together sculptures and installations that use light to sculpt and shape space in different ways. The exhibition showcases artworks created from the 1960s to the present day, including immersive environments, free-standing light sculptures and projections.

Light Show includes over 20 large-scale installations and sculptures by artists David Batchelor, Jim Campell, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Bill Culbert, Olafur Eliasson, Dan Flavin, Ceal Floyer, Nancy Holt, Jenny Holzer, Ann Veronica Janssens, Brigitte Kowanz, Anthony McCall, François Morellet, Iván Navarro, Katie Paterson, Conrad Shawcross, James Turrell, Leo Villareal and Cerith Wyn Evans.

Light Show is organised by the Hayward Gallery, London in association with the Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
