Overview

March Project 2015 exhibition features site-specific works developed by seven young artists during this educational residency programme. In its second edition, the exhibition will include performances, video works and installations on view at SAF Art Spaces, Calligraphy Square and the Arts Area. Participants in this programme include Majd Abdel Hamid, Maysoon Al Ali, Mona Al-Beiti, Balqis Al Rashid, Matt Copson, Sholto Dobie and Matthew Peers, who were selected from various countries including Palestine, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

The installation attempts to create a utopic fiction, highlighting the peripheries of urban planning and the attempt to create a sort of 'meaning/experience through altered and appropriated contemporary objects.'

Out of the Frame is a film about an introverted man called Abdulah from Maysoon Al Ali's old neighborhood. the film attempts to shed light on issues related to isolation and the power of judgement.

Mina

A partly improvised composition developed on-site in Sharjah. Mina reflects the area's heritage as a geographically important port. The piece is present as a performance by Sholto Dobie and cellist Joel Whycerely alongside a six-channel audio installation.

Tailors Alleyway

Tailors Alleyway makes visual elements that define the experience of being in an interstitial site near the Art Spaces. The mediums of video, found objects and a one-edition magazine each capture various aspects of Al Beiti's exploration of the alleyway from its rhythm and pace, the charterer of the people in the space and physical textures.
