Overview

In celebration of the ongoing major solo exhibition Frank Bowling: Mappa Mundi [Map of the World], a limited edition print of the artist’s work is now available for purchase at Sharjah Art Foundation’s shops, located adjacent to the foundation’s exhibition spaces in Arts Square and Al Mureijah Square.

The Guyana-born British artist is largely known for his colourful, richly-layered paintings, in which he invests abstraction with social, cultural and personal meaning.

Bowling’s work Towards Crab Island (2018) has been produced as a digital print on photographic rag paper (51 x 84 cm) in an edition of 75. This new limited edition has been produced from the artist’s original painting, Towards Crab Island (1983), featuring acrylic paint, acrylic gel, foam and mixed media on canvas. Currently on view in Bowling’s major solo exhibition at SAF, the original 1983 work is a richly textured example of Bowling’s contributions to the history of painting. Each print is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity hand-signed by the artist.

Proceeds from the limited editions support Sharjah Art Foundation’s exhibition and education programmes.

Also available at the SAF shop is the exhibition catalogue Frank Bowling: Mappa Mundi published in conjunction with the exhibition’s opening at Haus der Kunst in Munich. Edited by Okwui Enwezor, the 288 page, fully-illustrated, English language edition is published by Prestel and features contributions by Frank Bowling, Kobena Mercer, Anna Schenider, Zoe Whitley, Lynetter Yiadom-Boakye and Okwui Enwezor.

If you are interested in purchasing the prints, please e-mail us at info@sharjahart.org.
