Ammar Al Attar is a self-taught photographer and mixed media artist. In his practice, the artist chronicles his surroundings and the contemporary landscape, going beyond mere documentation to engage with issues impacting the social fabric of the United Arab Emirates. His images provide a visual history of his rapidly developing surroundings, exploring cultural continuity that is difficult to see amid overwhelming change.
Selected solo and group exhibitions of his work include Emirati Expressions IV, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Manarat Al Sadiyaat, Abu Dhabi (2015); Art Index 1.0, Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah (2015); Annual Photography Show, Emirates Fine Art Society, Sharjah (2015); Prayer Rooms, Al Riwaq Art Space, Bahrain (2013); Sharjah Biennial 11 (2013) and Roaming Images: 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Greece, Thessaloniki (2011).
He was selected for the 2013 Artists-in-Residence (A.i.R.) Dubai programme, a partnership between Delfina Foundation, London, the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Tashkeel, Dubai.
His work is included in the collection of Sharjah Art Foundation, Barjeel Art Foundation and Maraya Art Centre, all in Sharjah in addition to the forthcoming Zayed National Museum, Abu Dhabi.
This person was part of Sharjah Biennial 11.
