Biography

The abstract paintings of Jaffar Al Oraibi depict his exploration of the role of the individual in society, with a particular focus on gender identity and the expression of human emotion. Al Oraibi’s symbolic representations are often portrayed in wide swathes of black contrasted with an abundance of bright colours.

Solo exhibitions of Al Oraibi’s work have been presented at Al Riwaq Art Space, Adliya, Bahrain (2010) and the Bahrain Arts Society, Manama (2008). His group exhibitions include do it بالعربي, Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE (2016); Alwan 338, Al Riwaq Art Space (2014); Code-switching, Al Riwaq Art Space (2013); Qatar Arts Society Workshop, Doha (2010); Whispers of the East, Plastic Arts Centre, Bahrain National Museum, Manama (2010): Amman Fine Arts Festival, Jordan (2010) and Mumbai International Forum for Plastic Arts, India (2010).

Al Oraibi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Bahrain (1999) and is a member of the Bahrain Arts Society. He participated in residency programmes at the International Studio & Curatorial Program, New York (2013); Delfina Foundation, London (2010) and Cité International des Arts, Paris (2006).

Born in Bahrain in 1976, he currently lives and works in Manama.
