Biography

Founder and director of Simsara Music PR & Management (2012–present), Sarah El Miniawy works closely with a wide range of artists and organisations at the forefront of independent music in the Arab world, including Nadah El Shazly, Maurice Louca, Tamer Abu Ghazaleh, Maryam Saleh and Karkhana. She produces events, oversees residencies and handles partnerships and collaborations in addition to taking responsibility for the overall management of Simsara and its roster. One of Simsara’s partnerships is with Eka3, a Cairo-based music business incubator empowering the market infrastructure necessary for Arabic music to enjoy a sustainable, quality-driven ecosystem.

Prior to founding Simsara, El Miniawy worked in public relations and communications at the Barbican Centre, London (2005–2012) and as a Gallery Assistant at the Townhouse Gallery for Contemporary Art, Cairo (2004–2005).

El Miniawy earned a master’s degree in music and anthropology at SOAS, University of London (2012). Born in 1980 in Algiers, she lives and works between Cairo, London and Stockholm.
