Biography

Kevin Jones is an independent arts writer and educator who is interested in the self-representational strategies of art practitioners in the UAE and the ways in which they write about their practices.

Jones has been the UAE Desk Editor for ArtAsiaPacific since 2004 and has contributed to The Art Newspaper, artforum.com, ArtReviewAsia and FlashArt International. He also wrote an essay for sculptor Chaouki Choukini’s first monograph (Kaph Books, 2019).

He is a tutor at Tashkeel, Dubai, and a guest tutor with Art Jameel as part of its Hayy Learning initiative, Jeddah. He has been a member of International Union of Architects, Paris, since 2005.

Jones holds a BA in English literature from Northwestern University, Chicago, as well as an MA in semiotics/linguistics from the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris.

Born in 1972 in New York, he currently lives and works in Dubai.

Sharjah Film Platform Talks and Workshops

In parallel with the screening of over 50 films, Sharjah Film Platform (SFP) presents a programme of talks on cinema and artists’ moving image—from panel discussions to in-conversation sessions—that address the creative and conceptual aspects of filmmaking and the latest debates in the film and television industry. Workshops on various topics related to cinema, from acting improvisation to film criticism, will also be offered.
