Biography

Gabriel Lester’s artworks are either implicitly narrative, explicitly visual or both at once. They seldom convey any obvious message or singular idea, but rather propose ways to relate to the world. Through dissection, editing, cutting and repositioning, his work suggests rational consciousness as well as associative thought.

Lester has had solo exhibitions at Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai (2012); Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, the Netherlands (2011); Bloomberg Space, London (2007); Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm, Sweden (2006); BOZAR, Brussels, Belgium (2004) and Hague Gemeente Museum, the Netherlands (2002).

His work was also featured in dOCUMENTA 13, Kassel, Germany (2012); Performa, New York(2009) and the Liverpool Biennial, UK (2008).
