Established in 2011 by Nick Denes, Reem Shilleh and Mohanad Yaqubi, Subversive Film is a cinema research and production collective that aims to cast new light upon historic works related to Palestine and the region, engender support for film preservation and investigate archival practices and effects. Projects to explore this cine-historic field include the digital reissuing of previously overlooked films, the curating of rare film screening cycles and the subtitling of rediscovered films.

Subversive Film’s projects have been featured in a number of art and film events, including the Sharjah Biennial 13 off-site project Shifting Ground, Ramallah (2017); Forum Expanded, Berlinale, Berlin (2017); Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Japan (2017); Travelling Communiqué in Belgrade, the Museum of Yugoslav History, Serbia (2014), Homeworks VI, Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2013), among others.

Subversive Film is based between Ramallah and Brussels.
