Biography

Multi-media artist Guan Xiao primarily works with video and sculpture. She is known for her installations referencing ancient Eastern and Western traditions and contemporary popular culture as well as her juxtaposition of the future and the past and the crude and the high-tech.

Guan Xiao’s work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including Products Farming, Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn, Germany (2019); Fiction Archives Project, Contemporary Art Museum, St Louis, US (2019); Living Sci-Fi, under the red stars, Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler, Berlin (2017); Guan Xiao, FIAC (Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain), Paris (2016); and Guan Xiao: Elastic Sleep, K11 Art Foundation, Shanghai (2016). Among her group exhibitions are Producing Futures – An Exhibition on Post-Cyber-Feminisms, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich (2019); 14th Triennale Kleinplastik Fellbach, Germany (2019); Saudade: Unmemorable Place in Time, Fosun Foundation, Shanghai (2018); Like a Moth to a Flame, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin (2017); The Vague Space, Weserburg Museum, Bremen, Germany (2017); and Viva Arte Viva, 57th Venice Biennale (2017).

Guan Xiao holds a bachelor’s degree in directing from the Communication University of China, Beijing (2006). Born in 1983 in Chongqing, China, she lives and works in Beijing.
