Overview
Chalks and Pins and Charcoal make up a sort of tapestry made from multicoloured pieces of chalk and black charcoal lined up in horizontal and diagonal rows. The composition is inspired by Cameroonian tradition, but also alludes to the processes of art-making and to educational tools through the choice of materials typically used for writing or drawing.
The work proposes the idea of the artist as a 'maker', an individual who reorganises aspects of society usually viewed as static and entangled.
