DAYS, I See what I Saw and what I will See

Overview

The film was shot over 11 days from February 24 to March 6, 2011 in the China Labour Camp in Sajaa, Sharjah.

The artist built 100 metres of tracks to make travelling shots. He installed the tracks through the course of the day, and then filmed 100 metres in approximately 4 minutes. The next day, he dismantled the tracks, re-assembled them, moved 100 metres ahead, and filmed again. He did this for 11 consecutive days shooting both during the day and at night. The incremental editing of the daily recordings produced two singular plan séquences representing 1100 metres of space and 41 minutes of time.

DAYS will be screened only once in Sharjah, in the outskirts of the city, just after the end of the Biennial. The two versions – a day version and a night version – will be projected at the same time, on two sides of the same screen built specially for the event.

During the official term of the Biennial, only two elements are displayed: an artist statement in the form of a film poster hanging inside an exhibition room and 100 metres of tracks – the principle tool used for the film – located outside in the Heritage Area of the city.
