Overview

In Ramallah, Running represents Guy Mannes-Abbott's personal encounter with Palestine, interweaving short, poetic texts and exploratory essays. Artists and prominent writers were invited to respond both directly and indirectly to the texts as originally authored by Mannes-Abbott, or with newly commissioned essays.

Mannes-Abbott’s texts, with artwork from Paul Noble, generate a very special intimacy with a rarely seen or experienced Palestine. They are divided into fourteen parts that alternate between the author’s narrative thoughts on running within the limits of the city, walking out from it to, along, beyond and off limits, discovering how insidiously mobile those limits are under Occupation.

Contributors to the volume include Jananne al-Ani, Francis Alÿs, Najwan Darwish, Jean Fisher, Emily Jacir, Olaf Nicolai, Paul Noble, Khalil Rabah and Mark Titchner.
