Mara TK (Kai Tahu, Ngāti Maniapoto) blends kaupapa Māori with experimental sound artistry to deliver transformative sonic experiences. The artist is renowned for his soulful music and production skills, as well as his sound works and collaborations across diverse creative fields. This Māori-centred, stripped down performance featuring original, soulful music and songs, is underpinned by Mara TK’s deep understanding of Te Reo Māori, or Māori language. For Mara TK plays, he adopts a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating a respect for storytelling and truth telling from an Indigenous perspective, to create new interpretations and extensions of Māori culture, both customary and contemporary.
