Celia Plender (b. 1979, London) is a lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Exeter (2022–present). Focused on political-economic change in Britain through the lens of community groups, her research engages with themes of everyday politics, mutual aid and diverse economies. Her previous projects include ‘The Politics of Food and Housing Insecurity’ (2020–2022); ‘The Everyday Politics of Food Co-op: Care, Aid and Community in Austerity Britain’ (2014–2019); ‘A Study of St Sidwell’s Community Centre’ (2018); and ‘An Oral History of Neal’s Yard’ (2013–14). She has collaborated with various artists over the years to produce workshops, events and artworks, the most recent being a podcast with curator Zeynep Öz around her contribution to Sharjah Biennial 16: to carry (2025).
