In her artistic practice, Kamala Ibrahim Ishag explores themes of spirituality and incarceration, particularly within the context of Sudanese tradition. As a prominent feminist, she consistently challenges the prevailing male perspective, both in Sudan as well as in the broader canonical field of art history. Drawing inspiration from nature and spiritual practices such as Zar spirit possession rituals, many of her works depict mutable representations of women, evoking some of the tense conditions of a woman’s lived experience.
