Through his practice, multimedia artist and filmmaker Ahmad Ghossein examines the connection between individual human experiences and shared historical and political realities. His work is driven by personal and emotional experience, but is essentially concerned with the larger political dynamics of his time. He has participated in several exhibitions worldwide, including Beirut, Beyrut, Beyrouth, Beyrout, Oslo Kunstforening (2018); Undead Cinema, Nam June Paik Art Center, South Korea (2017); and Your Blazing World, SeMA Biennale Mediacity, Seoul (2016). His work has been screened at Venice Film Festival (2019); Cannes Film Festival (2017); Berlin Film Festival (2012); Museum of Modern Art, New York (2011); Sharjah Art Foundation (2011); and Kunsthallen, Oslo, among others. Ghossein has directed several documentaries and video works including 210m (2007); Faces Applauding Alone (2008); What Does Not Resemble Me Looks Exactly Like Me with Ghassan Salhab and Mohamad Soueid (2009); and An Arab Comes to Town (2008). His awards include the Production Programme Award, Sharjah Art Foundation (2014); Ibsen scholarship award (2013); and Best Director Prize at the Beirut International Film Festival for his short film Operation Nb… (2004). Ghossein earned a BFA in Theatre from the Lebanese University, Beirut (2003) and an MA from the National Academy of Arts, Oslo (2012).
