Arwa Alobaid (b. 1990, Riyadh) is a composer and violinist whose practice spans a variety of genres, including instrumental and vocal concert music, electroacoustic pieces and music for the screen. Her work draws on musical minimalism, intricate rhythmic structures and global folk traditions. Her compositions have premiered in both Riyadh and London, the two cities where she is based, and she has participated in performances of chamber music for strings, choral works, Byzantine chants, Javanese gamelan and Brazilian percussion. In 2022, she represented Saudi Arabia as a violinist in the G20 Orchestra initiative, performing near Borobudur Temple, Indonesia. Awarded a scholarship by the Saudi Ministry of Culture, Alobaid studied composition with Newton Armstrong, Claudia Molitor and Tullis Rennie at City, University of London, graduating in 2024 with a Bachelor of Music with first-class honours and the Overall Achievement in Music prize.
