Fatma Belkıs

Fatma Belkıs (b. 1985, Antalya, Turkey) is an artist who lives and works nomadically. Encompassing text, video and printed matter, her practice explores collective transformation through narratives rooted in friendship, negotiation and rupture. She weaves together themes of grief, conflict, loss and failure, examining how informal contracts of care and comradery are made—and broken. Her work has been shown at the Istanbul and Sharjah Biennials as well as institutions such as Istanbul Modern, DEPO, nGbK, Tensta Konsthall, SALT and La Tôlerie. Her films have been screened at international festivals. Belkıs also runs Hür Adalar (Sovereign Isles), a publishing and residency initiative in provincial Turkey.
