Brian Martin (b. 1972, Sydney) is an artist and professor based in Melbourne, where he is director of the Wominjeka Djeembana Indigenous Research Lab, Monash University Art, Design and Architecture Faculty. He is a descendant of the Bundjalung, Kamilaroi, and Muruwari peoples. His research and practice focus on refiguring creative practice and culture through an Indigenous ideological perspective rooted in a reciprocal relationship to ‘Country’. Martin has exhibited nationally and internationally for over 30 years, primarily working in painting and drawing. In 2022, he was appointed to the Australian Research Council’s College of Experts, where he contributes to identifying research excellence, assessing funding applications and providing strategic advice. He was the inaugural Associate Dean Indigenous at Monash University Art, Design and Architecture Faculty and is an Honorary Professor of Eminence at Centurion University of Technology and Management in Odisha, India.
