Chatori Shimizu (b. 1990, Osaka) is a composer and sound artist whose practice spans site-specific works, kinetically enhanced music and concert compositions. Incorporating choreography, programming, mechanical augmentation and installation, his award-winning works have been exhibited internationally and performed by ensembles such as AuditivVokal, Mivos, NZTrio and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. Also an active shō performer, Shimizu has conducted workshops on the Japanese mouth organ at universities worldwide, and he performs regularly with LOD muziektheater, appearing at Festival d’Aix; the Royal Opera House, London; and Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia. He holds degrees from Kunitachi College of Music, Columbia University and Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. Shimizu has been awarded fellowships from the Asian Cultural Council, Found Sound Nation, Mitsubishi Foundation, Omi International Arts Center, Soundstreams, Toshiba Foundation and Yaddo. His music scores are published by United Music & Media Publishing and Diaphonia Edizioni.
