Claudia Martínez Garay

Claudia Martínez Garay (b. 1983, Ayacucho, Peru) lives and works between Amsterdam and Lima. Her practice explores Peru’s sociopolitical history and memory, engaging with both official and unofficial visual archives. She studied at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and has participated in residencies at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam; Cité des Arts, Paris; and Artpace, San Antonio. Her work has been presented in solo and duo exhibitions at Dundee Contemporary Arts, UK; Nottingham Contemporary; and Sifang Art Museum, Nanjing, China, as well as in major biennials and institutions worldwide, including Sharjah Biennial 16 (2025), Istanbul Biennial (2019) and Aichi Triennial (2019). She has received the Henry Moore Grant (2024), Stokroos Prize (2021) and Emerging Artist Award CIFO (2018). A former lecturer at PUCP, she has also taught at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, University of Toronto and Zurich University of the Arts.
