George Jose (b. 1971, Vazhakulam, Kerala, India) is a Visiting Associate Professor of Anthropology at NYU Abu Dhabi. He co-edited Mumbai / Bombay: Majoritarian Neoliberalism, Informality, Resistance, and Wellbeing (2022) and was the Reviews Editor for South Asia: The Journal of South Asian Studies. His research explores metropolitan transformations in the Global South, focusing on precarious creativities in urban peripheries. Previously, he was Dean of the Jyoti Dalal School of Liberal Arts at Mumbai’s NMIMS University, Program Director at Asia Society India and a fellow at Forum Transregionale Studien in Berlin. He also helped develop the ARThinkSouthAsia (ATSA) Fellowship programme, initiated by the Goethe-Institut in India, and supported by the British Council and the Piramal Art Foundation. At NYUAD, Jose is working on That Impossible Blue, a collaborative project under the auspices of ‘Heritage, Memory and Mobility’ Research Kitchen, which builds an alternative archive of the Indian Ocean World.
