Georgina Velasco (The Voice of Domestic Workers)

Georgina Velasco (b. 1960, Mabalacat, Philippines) is an activist and advocate for the rights of domestic workers. She moved to Hong Kong in 1985 to work as a domestic worker before relocating to the United Kingdom in 2008 through the Overseas Domestic Worker Visa programme. Since 2009, she has been an active member of Justice for Domestic Workers (now The Voice of Domestic Workers), serving on its Board of Directors (2011–2017) and as a trustee (2017–present). Based in London, she has organised domestic workers in Leeds, leading workshops and film projects such as They Call Us Maids and Some Women, Other Women and All the Bittermen (2015). In 2011, Justice for Domestic Workers received the Anti-Slavery International Award, while The Voice of Domestic Workers has been recognised with the Outstanding Contribution to Communities Ethnicity Award (2021) and the Changemakers Award (2024).
