Unfettered by confines of time and geography, the practice of Singaporean visual artist John Clang often straddles dual realities of global cities. A double-sight navigator of a world in constant flux, he absorbs seemingly mundane and banal external stimuli, and he conveys his internal observations and ruminations through the mediums of photography, film and metaphysical performance. In 2010, he became the first (and, to date, the only) photographer to receive the President’s Design Award (Designer of the Year), one of Singapore’s most prestigious design accolades. Clang has exhibited, performed and screened his works at prominent international art venues worldwide, including the ArtScience Museum, Singapore; CCC Strozzina, Florence; Deichtorhallen, Hamburg; International Film Festival Rotterdam; National Gallery Singapore; Pera Museum, Istanbul; Singapore Art Museum; and Singapore International Film Festival.
