Mahmoud Khaled

Mahmoud Khaled (b. 1982, Alexandria) studied Fine Art at Alexandria University in Egypt, and obtained his MFA from Trondheim University in Norway. Spanning video, photography, sculpture, installation, sound and text, his work explores identity and intimate dynamics, while questioning the larger structures that produce them. He has held solo exhibitions at Gypsum, Cairo; The Mosaic Rooms, London; Edith-Ruth-Haus, Oldenburg; Associação Cultural Videobrasil, São Paulo; and Contemporary Image Collective, Cairo. The artist has also participated in group shows at IMPAKT, Utrecht, Tallinn and Freiburg; Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn; Witte de With, Rotterdam; 15th Istanbul Biennale; 13th Sharjah Biennial; Centre Pompidou, Malaga; Whitechapel Gallery, London; and Lofoten International Art Festival. Khaled was awarded the Videobrasil in Context prize (2012) and was shortlisted for the 2016 Abraaj Art Prize. He received the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Fellowship (2020) and was awarded the Frieze Focus Stand Prize in London (2022). He is based between Berlin and Cairo.
