Augustine Paredes (b. 1994, Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines) is a multidisciplinary artist based between Dubai and Frankfurt. His photographic practice explores themes of migration, desire, identity and longing. Using photography, painting, poetry and installation, Paredes draws on postcolonial narratives and personal history to interrogate what it means to be a Filipino in diaspora—shifting between mediums, materials and memories. Through his work, he continuously asks how images can carry intimacy and how homes are made across distances. His solo exhibitions include a presentation in the Artist’s Rooms series, Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai (2024) as well as Light, Leaks, Foundry, Lawrie Shabibi, Dubai (2023); Yearning the Sun to Fall, ffreidrich, Frankfurt (2023); Paradise4Ever, Gulf Photo Plus, Dubai (2022); and How Strangers Meet, Today x Future, Quezon City, Philippines (2016). Paredes co-founded (with Anna Bernice delos Reyes) Sa Tahanan Co., a collective committed to nurturing diasporic Filipino voices.
