Sarathy Korwar (b. 1987, Maryland, USA) is a drummer, composer, producer and bandleader. His music fuses jazz, electronics, Indian folk and classical influences with a focus on decolonisation, community, race and transcendence. His latest album, KALAK, is an Indo-futurist manifesto that celebrates the rich South Asian culture of music and literature. Placed at #2 in The Guardian’s Best Global Albums of 2022, KALAK won the Songlines award for Best Album (Asia/Pacific) in 2023. Korwar has toured and collaborated with Anoushka Shankar, Kamasi Washington, Metropole Orchestra and Shabaka Hutchings, among others, and also performed at various festivals and venues, including Sydney Opera House, North Sea Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival and Dekmantel. His music has been featured in the New York Times, The Guardian, The Quietus, Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, along with support from radio stations around the world
