The Voice of Domestic Workers is an education and campaigning group calling for justice and rights for Britain’s 16,000 migrant domestic workers. They provide educational and community activities for domestic workers, including English language lessons, drama and art classes and employment advice, and they mount rescues for domestic workers stuck with abusive employers.
Established in 2009 and supported by Unite the Union, the organisation is active in making domestic work visible in society. Since its establishment, this self-organised group have centred on visual expression and aesthetic strategies as important for their campaign, collaborating with artists and arts organisations for more than a decade. Through various engagements and discussions with artists and curators, along with curatorial projects, they have successfully made domestic work visible and employed artistic and aesthetic strategies to this end.
