Timoteus Anggawan Kusno

Timoteus Anggawan Kusno (b. 1989, Yogyakarta) is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Amsterdam. His work navigates the intersections of fiction, history, fantasy and memory through poetic imagery and a metafictional approach. A Berlinale Talents alumnus and Locarno Residency participant, he critically examines the spectral legacies of colonialism and authoritarianism. His films have been screened at international festivals, including Berlinale, CPH:DOX, DOK Leipzig, Ji.hlava IDFF and International Film Festival Rotterdam, which also presented a Focus Programme on his work (2025). Kusno’s projects have been presented at Tate Modern, London; Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Seoul; Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona; Beijing Inside-Out Art Museum; BOZAR, Brussels; Kunstmuseum, Bonn; and the Gwangju and Yogyakarta Biennales, among others. He is the recipient of many awards, including the Han Nefkens Foundation Video Production Award (2021), VISIO Production Grant (2023) and a Mondriaan Fund grant (2024).
