Surabhi Sharma is an independent filmmaker with documentaries and short films that have been screened and awarded at various international film festivals. Over 10 feature length films have been produced and directed by Sharma. Her filmography includes Jari Mari: of Cloth and Other Stories (2001), The Turtle People (2002), Jahaji Music: India in the Caribbean (2004), Bidesia in Bambai (2013), Can I see the Baby Bump Please (2013), Returning to the First Beat (2017) and Movement Traces (2021). Surabhi is Program Head and Associate Professor of Practice of Film and New Media, Arts and Humanities Division at NYUAD. Surabhi holds a BA in Anthropology and Psychology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai (1991), and received her post-graduate diploma in Social Communication Media from Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai (1992) as well as a post-graduate diploma in film direction at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune (1998). Born in 1970 in Rajasthan, India, Surabhi currently lives and works in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
