Ellen Pau (b. 1961, Hong Kong) is a self-taught media artist and professional radiographer. She began her art career at Zuni Icosahedron, creating video projects for Danny Yung. Her notable work, The Disenchantment of Statue (1987), led to an Asian Cultural Council Fellowship and the production of her iconic Song of the Goddess (1992). In 1986, the artist co-founded Videotage, one of Asia’s first video artist collectives, and she has chaired the Microwave International New Media Arts Festival since 1997. Pau’s collaborations span independent films and videos for prominent Cantopop artists. Recent exhibitions include Awakening: Art in Society in Asia 1960s–1990s (2019) at National Gallery Singapore and solo shows at Para Site (2019) and Edouard Malingue Gallery (2020). Her work is featured in major collections, including the Hong Kong Museum of Art and M+. Asia Art Archive launched the Ellen Pau Archive in 2023.
