Lives and works between Beirut and London

Joe Namy is an American-born, London- and Beirut-based artist, educator and composer who often works collaboratively across mediums in sound, performance, sculpture and video. Their projects focus on social constructs of music and organised sound in addition to the complexities of translation from language to language, score to sound, drum to dance.
Namy graduated with an MFA from New York University, and they have independently studied jazz, Arabic and heavy metal drumming. In 2011, the artist participated in the inaugural Ashkal Alwan Home Workspace ISP in Beirut, and they now serve on the curricular committee and as a mentor. Namy is currently a Sundance/Time Magazine Kendada fellow, a PHD candidate at Oxford’s Ruskin School of Art and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Artist in Residence.
