Shubigi Rao

Shubigi Rao is a multidisciplinary artist and writer known for her work in visual arts and literature. She explores themes such as histories, violence, libraries, ecology and natural history. Her work critically examines contemporary crises of displacement, focusing on the loss of people, languages, cultures and knowledge systems. One of her major projects, Pulp: A Short Biography of the Banished Book (2016), delves into the history of book destruction and the future of knowledge. The project’s first exhibition, Written in the Margins, won the APB Signature Prize 2018 Juror’s Choice Award. Rao’s second book in the series earned the Singapore Literature Prize in 2020. Recent solo exhibitions include These Petrified Paths, Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai (2023–2024), and Eating One’s Tail, Rossi & Rossi, Hong Kong (2023). She represented Singapore at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022) and served as Artistic Director for the 5th Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2022–2023).
