Sevil Tunaboylu

Sevil Tunaboylu lives and works in Istanbul, as she explores the cohabitation of objects she encounters and the invisible portraits whose traces she witnesses. She re-examines her subjects by shifting between different mediums and through subtle transitions from painting to sculpture via depictions of photographs and images of sculptures that constitute one of the main research methods she employs.
The artist received her BA in Painting from the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in 2005. She co-founded and then co-managed the nonprofit initiative Mtaär Open Art Space between 2008 and 2010. As a member of the feminist collective Alaca Heyheyler, she organises exhibitions and workshops, and produces artist publications. She has been working as a visual arts instructor since 2007.
