Tishani Doshi

Tishani Doshi publishes poetry, fiction and essays. For 15 years, she also worked with the Chandralekha dance company in Madras, India, performing on stages across the world. The body has therefore become a central preoccupation in her work—a vehicle to explore gender, violence and power. Since her debut with Countries of the Body (2006), which won the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, she has sought to find joineries between the lyrical and the political. Girls Are Coming Out of the Woods (2017) headlined the All About Women Festival at the Sydney Opera House, and it was shortlisted for a Ted Hughes Award. Her most recent books include a collection of poems titled A God at the Door (Copper Canyon Press, 2021) and a novel, Small Days and Nights (W. W. Norton & Company, 2020), which was shortlisted for the Ondaatje Prize. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a visiting associate professor at New York University Abu Dhabi.
