Yhonnie Scarce was born in Woomera, South Australia, and she belongs to the Kokatha and Nukunu peoples. Her interdisciplinary practice explores the political nature and aesthetic qualities of her primary mediums—glass and photography—and the continuing impact and trauma of Australia’s colonisation on First Nations people. Scarce has received the Yalingwa Artist Fellowship (2020), National Architecture Award for Small Project Architecture (2020) (with Edition Office) for her 2019 National Gallery of Victoria Architecture Commission, Indigenous Ceramic Award (2018) and the Kate Challis RAKA Award (2018), among many other accolades. Her work is widely collected and held in both private and institutional collections within Australia and internationally.
