Yim Yen Sum

Yim Yen Sum (b. 1987, Kuala Lumpur) predominantly works with textiles to create ever-evolving installations that explore relationships and interconnectivity within society and our environment. Her works invite audiences to reflect on their connections with those around them, thereby fostering new relationships through interaction with her art. The artist’s intricate needlework involves manipulating gauze through screen printing and appliqué, accumulating and stitching units like building blocks until she achieves a cohesive result. Each work has the potential to evolve and change with time and space, a concept she embraces. Yen Sum has exhibited internationally at venues such as Halle 18, Art Jakarta Garden and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. She received the United Overseas Bank’s Painting of the Year Award in 2016.
