Abdullah Al Mutairi’s publication Between the Brush and the Archive is an experimental work that delves into the counter-cultural energy of pioneering Kuwaiti artist Khalifa Al-Qattan. The conversation will elucidate the research and process involved in conceiving the book, including Al-Qattan’s personal archive and artistic methodologies.

 

About Ala Younis
 

Ala Younis is an artist, researcher and curator. She has presented her work in solo exhibitions in Amman, Dubai, Cairo, Sharjah, New York, London, Seville and Prague, and in the biennials of Venice, Istanbul, Gwangju, Ljubljana, Kaunas, Ural and Orleans. In 2012, Younis co-founded Kayfa ta, an independent publishing initiative geared towards research. She is Research Scholar at al Mawrid Arab Centre for the Study of Art at NYU Abu Dhabi.
 

About Abdullah Al Mutairi
 

Abdullah Al Mutairi is an artist and writer based in Kuwait. He is part of the art collective GCC and has exhibited his work internationally at institutions such as the Sharjah Art Foundation, MoMA PS1 and Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris. His writing has appeared in publications such as the Journal of Arabian Studies and Asia Art Pacific. Currently, he works as an external engagement researcher for al Mawrid Arab Center for the Study of Art at New York University, Abu Dhabi.
