In the shadow of tragedy or personal loss, does the normally overlooked detritus of daily life become suffused with new meaning, or are we simply better able to see the meaning it always bore? Fatma Belkıs and Sophia Tintori discuss works that examine the microscopic or otherwise underfoot articles in our environment that allow us to broaden the picture of what remains after loss. Using various formats, including installation, writing and film, these works take an approach bordering on the archaeological to honour and build worlds from what we might otherwise consider waste.
