On Homes and Waiting Rooms

With Mahmoud Khaled

Ages 17+

In Arabic

This course will examine perceptions of public spaces as waiting rooms—transitional sites of in-betweenness, absence and otherness as well as intense sociopolitical interaction. Through lectures, discussions and collective analysis, participants will investigate the social, economic and cultural dynamics embedded in homes, waiting areas and urban settings such as parks, markets and theatres. They will explore key concepts, engage with selected texts and films, and select a public place in the city to analyse within the context of readings and conversations from the course.

This session is free, and all materials are provided by Sharjah Art Foundation.
