In this workshop, Nigerian photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi explores urban landscapes, cultural identity and the subtle nuances of everyday life through his own photographic journey. Participants will examine Akinbiyi's recent photo books, which offer insight into how he captures fleeting moments and untold stories across African cities and beyond. Akinbiyi will address how practices of listening and walking are crucial to photography as a public activity. Participants will study the visual narratives within his works on view in Sharjah Biennial 16 to understand his unique perspective on the essence of place, people and time. Akinbiyi,, whose recent work draws inspiration from his experiences in Chicago, Brazil and Germany, will also share his approach to his Bamako series, touching on the histories of photo studios and Bamako Encounters: The African Biennale of Photography. Through hands-on sessions, discussions and personalised feedback, participating photographers will strengthen their technical skills while developing their unique visual voices.
