This presentation and performance features a dialogue between Tabu Osusa, co-founder of Singing Wells and founding director of the not-for-profit Ketebul Music, Nairobi, and Andrew J. Eisenberg, ethnomusicologist and Associate Professor of Music, NYU Abu Dhabi. Osusa and Eisenberg will delve into the fascinating story of the Singing Wells project, a collaborative initiative led by Ketebul Music and the Abubilla Music Foundation, UK, which celebrates and sustains the cultural heritage of East Africa through recording, archiving and distributing performances of traditional music. Their discussion will be enhanced by a musical interlude featuring The Zawose Sisters, a duo of singer-instrumentalists from Tanzania who recorded with Singing Wells (as Chibite Group) seven years before the release of their debut album in 2024.
