Artist Mariam M. Alnoaimi and her long-term research collaborator Abbas AlShajjar exchange notes about their ongoing study of Bahrain’s coastal transformation. Discussing the development of Alnoaimi’s Sharjah Biennial 16 commission, The Water that Asked for a Fish, their dialogue touches upon their relationships with bodies of water in Bahrain—both contemporary and historical—and the underlying preciousness and fragility of these complex and threatened ecosystems that sustain human and more-than-human life as well as culture.
