Workshop with E.N. Mirembe and Rosie Olang’ Odhiambo

Anchored in poet and playwright Ntozake Shange’s concept of a ‘choreopoem’, this workshop engages with a selection of works by Chandralekha, Tishani Doshi and Dilek Winchester on view at the nearby Al Qasimiyah School. It explores poetry and writing as embodied practices, engaging with movement, script, score and performance as forms of storytelling. These responsive and organic forms, which resist easy characterisation, allow room for play, fabulation and close narration. Additionally, participants will build on Tina Campt’s notions of movement and frequency as they examine the work of Chandralekha, Doshi and Winchester.
