Working between cinema, photography and installation, Basma al-Sharif de-territorialises a singular perspective through a more subjective, fallible vision of history in the present. While referencing the collective experience of cinema, her works create immersive experiences with still and moving images, drawings and sound. She explores the human condition through the legacy of Colonialism as it transitions into Neo-Colonialism. Her work has been shown at Los Angeles Nomadic Division (2021); MOMA: Modern Mondays NYC (2020); SALT Galata, Istanbul (2020); Lahore Biennale 02 (2020); Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow (2019); Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto (2019); Glasgow Film Festival (2018); 18th Cinéma de la paix, Tunis (2018); Courtisane Festival, Brussels (2018); Sharjah Art Foundation (2018); Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2017); Whitney Biennial, New York (2017); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2015); Manifesta 8 (2010); Toronto International Film Festival (2010); London Palestine Film Festival (2010); Rencontres internationales, Paris (2009); Chicago Underground Film Festival (2009); Festival international du cinéma méditerranéen de Montpellier, France (2009); DocuDays 9: Beirut International Documentary Festival (2009); The Jerusalem Show (2008); Jeu de Paume, Paris (2007); and ARTEAST Cinema East Film Festival, New York (2007), among others.
