Alia Farid (b. 1985) lives and works in Kuwait and Puerto Rico. She has held solo exhibitions at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Oslo; Chisenhale Gallery, London; Kunsthalle Basel; the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Missouri; Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam; and Portikus, Frankfurt am Main. Recent group shows include participation in the Geneva Biennale Sculpture Garden, the Whitney Biennial, the Diriyah Biennale, the Bienal de São Paulo, the Gwangju Biennale, the Sharjah Biennial, Theater of Operations: The Gulf Wars 1991–2001 at MoMA PS1, the Yokohama Triennale and the Asia Pacific Triennial.
The artist obtained a BFA from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico (San Juan), an MS in Visual Studies from the Visual Arts Program at MIT (Cambridge) and an MA in Museum Studies and Critical Theory from the Programa d’Estudis Independents MACBA (Barcelona). Farid received the Lise Wilhelmsen Art Award (2023) and was the David and Roberta Logie Fellow at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute (2023–2024).
