Timings: 10:30am – 1:30pm
Meeting point: Session 1: Bait Obaid Al Shamsi | Session 2: Information Center, Al Mureijah

Pop South Asia exhibiting artist Samsul Alam Helal and Emirati photographer Ammar Al Attar will join us in a discussion about photography studio culture, dissecting it from both Emirati and South Asian perspectives. The artists will each share intriguing archival materials and apply their research findings to individual studio set-ups to be constructed at the workshop venue.

On a second day, community members will embark on a photowalk to explore Sharjah-based photography studios. Inspired by Samsul Alam’s ‘Love Studio’, they will dive deep into studio practice in the UAE. Pop South Asia exhibiting artist Samsul Alam Helal will lead participants on an excursion to explore the local photography studios found in SAF neighbourhood. Participants will be able to photograph the scenes and experience the commercial culture behind these studios while reflecting on Helal’s Love Studio (2012–2013), a series of photos about a studio in Dhaka.
