Tour and Talk Description

After a guided tour of the Vantage Point Sharjah 9 (VPS9) exhibition, attendees are invited to a talk titled Between Movement and Pause: The Visual Archaeology of a Pandemic. Artist Hind Mezaina and photographer Noora Al Neyadi will present their recent photography projects and talk about documenting the changed landscape and realities of the UAE during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mezaina will discuss her new project Wonder Land (developed for Tashkeel's Critical Practice Programme, 2020), which captures the disruption of life during the first peak of the pandemic, with a focus on abandoned public places seemingly frozen in time. Al Neyadi will reflect on her new series of portraits and photographs, titled Eyes Stories, that puts a face on the brave doctors, nurses, cleaners, security guards and volunteer workers on the frontlines of this fight.

Presenters: Hind Mezaina, Artist, writer, film curator, blogger and podcaster; and Noora Al Neyadi, Photographer
